Convenience or Security?

It seems Amazon is getting in on the security market as well.

Though I shudder to call it such.

With the rampant trending of remote, cloud-based control over normally key-controlled areas, should it be called the “convenience market?” Now, more than ever, the friction between security and convenience seems to be increasing, with security compromised the most.

Take for example, Amazon’s new delivery option: Amazon Key.

Would you really feel comfortable allowing a stranger to unlock your home with the push of a button? Available for Amazon Prime members only, it includes a special electronic lock and an in-home, jazzy looking security camera that sits pointed at your door, allowing you to watch the delivery being placed in your home.

Supposedly, Amazon promises to reimburse losses should theft occur, but only in some cases.

If nothing else, it will motivate people to keep their entryways cleaner!
